An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. It treats them through defibrillation, applying electricity to allow the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.
